If I remember right, when the Jack is installed, you DO NOT use the power supply/amplifier that came with the Jack if your coach already has an amplifier system for the original crank up antenna. I mention this because you mentioned turning the Jack on with it's own switch. On my coach I have a switching box that has it's own antenna amplifier and there is NOT a separate switch for the Jack. Perhaps if two amplifiers are on this is causing the problem.
If you get a whole new Jack ant. then you do not use the old amp. You must use the new one or it wont work.
This is spelled out in the instructions several times.
I removed the batwing and installed the Jack antenna and I still am using the original power supply. It works just fine.
I think we're talking about two different things. I'm not talking about the replacement head (of which I have no knowledge) for the bat wing. I'm talking about the short Jack ant. kit that mounts directly on the roof and comes with its own wall plate/power supply. That's the one that warns against using the old bat-wing amp. Probably because you would have two amplifiers that way.
I assumed by the OP's description that he has the one in the link below.
Here's the one I'm referring to:
JackHere is the manual for the ant in the link above. See page 2 & 5 for notes on wall plate usage if you have this ant.
