Propane and tunnels

YES there are SOME tunnels where the on-board propane source (portable cylinders or permanently mounted tanks) have to be valved out

Those tunnels are East Coast and AL.....and are CLEARLY MARKED with signage LONG before you get to the tunnels.

On the PA Turnpike...Northeasst Extension, there is a tunnel. As mentioned by OLD BUSCUIT, there is a very large sign long before the entrance. However...this is only for COMMERICIAL vehicles...not RVs. Been going thru this tunnel without any problems for about 20 years. From popup, TT to motorhome.

Now...the BALTIMORE Tunnel....gotta turn the valves off...and they WILL check it.

In Virginia the tunnels has signs and the general thing to do for RV's is to turn off the PROPANE valves. This may only apply to tunnels that go down a long way where Propane can accumulate I guess... They will inspect to see if the PROPANE is turned OFF and tanks are secured to the frame...

Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel here in Virginia is the only one I have pulled a trailer through with Propane Tanks and was checked at a very well marked pull-off just before going down into the tunnel.

Check ahead if you know your route. I think in MD some tunnels in the Baltimore Area on I95 may be prohibited for RV's with propane tanks and you have to route around them... Was that way just a few years back at any rate... The report above may have some info on this - I didn't read it haha...

The tunnels in Baltimore ban propane. There are signs directing you around and over the bridge. It is an expensive fine and on top of that it is not just a ticket that you can mail in it is a "must appear" ticket. You have to go to court. RVs are easy targets as they know that you probably are carrying propane.

Anyone know the current status on the tunnel under the buildings at the end of the GW bridge into NY City? Over the past 30 years it has changed from the hazardous material route through the city, to under the buildings and back again. Planning a trip up and across the cross Bronx later this year. Haven't been in 10 years. I will cross at about 3 am.

No problem, just make sure to take the upper level on the bridge.

Got a bunch of stop and check tunnels here in my back yard of south eastern Virginia. Five of them to be exact. All are underwater tunnels. Stop at the inspection station, they check the tank valve(s) and you on your way. Can't speak for I95 further north.

I travel one of the tunnels twice a day to and from work. One morning they stopped all traffic to pull a class A out at the tunnel entrance. They didn't stop at the inspection station.

Eisenhower tunnel in Co, several tunnels in Oregon and Washington also.

Follow the speed limit and propane off signs and you will be fine.
