propane heat

Our MH is equipped with two roof mount heat pumps. They seem to provide heat down to about 36 degrees.

We have a propane furnace in addition. We've run it about 3 times. The bathroom, hallway and bedroom have heat blasting out and the two vents at the front put out a tiny bit of heat. The floors get warm so heat is definitely passing through the front ducts.

There is a vent cut-off in the bath and in the bedroom vent. I have tried closing the vents in the bed and bath but that does not result in pushing more air to the front. There is no cut off in the hall vent.

Does anyone know if there is an adjustable baffle located anywhere on the floor system that will permit directing more air flow to the front?

I'm also concerned about damaging the floor system by blocking off vents in the rear.

We have some efficient space heaters that we can put on the MH to augment the propane system or maybe even eliminate the need for it all together. We will use that option unless someone is aware of a baffle adjustment in the duct system.

We are in the south and only need the propane system occasionally so I don't mind carrying the extra electric heater and letting the park cover the cost of our heat.
  • I shined a light in the hall vent towards the front. No light in the mirror I used to look but it does not appear to be a straight shot so that may mean nothing.

I placed an air gun from my compressor at 15 PSI in the hall duck and wedged the trigger on. That put plenty of air coming out of the front two ducts. So I don't think there is a kink in the ducts or a disconnect. When I fired up the heat, I got no air up front. I closed the hall vent and that sent some air up front. So now I can make the system work somewhat but I don't know if closing the hallway duct is going to harm the system.

I'm really hoping I can work through the issues on this MH. I simply can not keep driving 120 miles round trip to fix this minor stuff. I did cancel my warranty plan which made my dealer unhappy but we have a year with Winnie and I'll just jump through their hoops.

I have my compressor and shop vac out there so if there are more suggestions....
  • I like the simple fix of the space heater. :) Of course, unless it eats at you, I'd go with the suggestion of others to look for bad duct work.
  • Pull a vent grill that has heat, put a flash light turned on and point toward the front. Take out the next cold vent grill and use a mirror and see if you have light. If not something is in the way or disconnected as Doug suggest.

This will only work if you have a single floor duct from front to back. If tubing as Doug mention find the heater and check the flex ducts.

Find the heater return vent and remove it. Most just slip in or a screw or two.
  • How do I get at those ducts to check?

edit: There is nothing in the manuals about the duct work. I'd love to get schematics on where everything is and how to get to them.
  • There is no adjustable baffle. You probably have ducting not connected correctly to the furnace or the hose ducting is pinched. Doug

Blocking off vents is not recommended. The end result is the heat exchanger getting hot and shutting down the burner.

    What he said.
