Property tax payment

Hello, I have a question concerning property tax payments on motorized rv’s. We are brand new to the RV community, we have a 38’ Georgetown 5 series 2018 motorhome. We are not considered full time just weekends as for now. Recently we received our property tax paperwork that required information that would give us the opportunity to be taxed at 6.5% instead of 10%. Can anyone please tell me how would I go about figuring out the tax info for the state of SC? Just want to stay abreast on my tax options. Thank you for any help.

Blessings

Property tax on an RV? Move!

Yeah, even NY hasn't caught on to that one yet! ;)
  • How would I know? Ask a SC tax attorney or CPA. It’s YOUR state, not mine.

You have to pay as much as 10% property tax on a motorhome?? Is that every year??? Yeah, think I'd move. Even California doesn't do that to you.

It’s 6% for a mh, 10 for TT or fivers unless you apply for exemption. The good news is you buy a 15k clunker you pay $500 sales tax. Buy a $1.5 million Prevost you also only pay $500.
  • I just went through this in Richland county. What the accessors office told me is that ALL motorhomes are already taxed at 6%. You don’t need to file a form. TT’s, and fivers can apply for a second home exemption and then there rate will drop to 6% instead of 10. This may vary by county so you should call your county tax office.

You will want to check your tax renewal notice next year as they initially increased the value of my Newmar. That is not going to happen so I called and they adjusted the value.

There should be information somewhere on those papers about who to call if you have questions......or what office issued the papers.
    Call them.

If you don't like their answers, contact a tax accountant or tax attorney.

PLEASE do not take advice given in a forum like this as your only resource.
