Keep it affordable. Leaving instruments on the table can get expensive! Just get a big piece of poster board and a marker. Make a sign:

As an alternative, in place of "Drum Practice", you could make it "Hell's Angels". ;)
(edit: ) I showed this thread to my wife. She says no, the way to keep people away nowadays is to have a big sign on your rig, depicting a cross and the phrase, "Jesus Saves!" ... with a Bible and a stack of tracts on the table.
Hmm, guess I'd better forget about making that sign...
