The law applies to gas only but .. Truck stops will allow you( and expect you ) to pump your own .diesel . Use the rv pumps .. the commercial truck pumps in oregon are not taxed ( about .25 a gallon ) and are set that way and aren't able to switch to the tax mode listed puc permit req etc they pay a per mile tax. you must pay the fuel tax.
most small stations don't want you to pump your own its not the law but a station rule . It will be clear as most of the smaller station that do let you, say so on the pump in a large notice. In most cases it will be pumped by the attendant so just relax and follow their rules think of it this way ... You keep your hands clean ;-)
