Flanz, you might be selling yourself short with how you are valuing the work it needs... What really is the work? Brakes, tires, alignment, axle service - no big deal, not too scary. Motor or transmission rebuild, maybe scary to some but I wouldn't walk away and there are many more like me who have rebuilt their own transmissions and have the tools and time to fix "a good deal." In any event, what harm is there putting feelers out to the tire kickers - no interest is the worst case. Show it/sell it as-is just as any other private motor vehicle sale.
If you absolutely don't want to deal with private sale, then shop at MAJOR camper dealers that move serious inventory and have units going into the wholesale market every month. Such dealers will give you the best trade you'll get at any dealer and also work with the lowest profit margin because they deal volume. For instance, Tom Johnson Camping Centers in NC would be such a dealer. I can give you a personal example, they were willing to sell us the brand new TT we wanted $300 over cost and would give us $1500-2000 more on trade of our old compared to EVERY other dealer within our 8 hour drive radius!
Hi geotex - You may be right. I'm still pondering things, but the work may be too much for MOST people. My wife and I were talking last night about this and because repairs are needed we will only hit maybe 25% of the people looking who want to do repairs. There are two real problems with the MH.
One - the gas feed to the genny from the tank needs to be replaced. This is no big deal for some and not really concerning me.
Two - I had a leak on one window upfront on the passenger side and the luan under the window needs to be replaced. Leak has been fixed.
Three - Two of the compartment doors have rusted where they connect to the coach. They won't fall off, but the support that holds the door to the coach will have to be repaired. This is the repair that concerns me most.
Outside of the above, she runs strong. I have done all maintenance on the motor and drive train and it's all good. Last season all of the brakes were done and the tires are fairly new. It's a nice rig for someone looking to get into the MH camping thing for short money. But, they have some repairs to do and need to be somewhat handy.
