Flanz, that repair isn't scary at all! You have no idea how common it is! Public transportation buses face it all the time! If you want to get an estimate of what a professional experienced in this repair to buses and coaches alike would charge, give a call to RMS of Hanover, PA a call and speak to Cecil. I'm certain he'd work up a ballpark with some digital pictures.
Yes - You may be correct, but the issue that I have is finding a person willing to buy the coach and take on the repairs. I don't want to do it. I'm not putting any money into the coach and will try to price it accordingly. I figure it'll take a couple grand for the doors and maybe $500 for the gas tank fix.
We were talking about this last night and may put it on CL's for $8500 and go no lower that $7K. If it doesn't sell on CL's, then we'll go the route of getting best price for new coach and sliding in the old coach as a trade for whatever they'll give us.
I hate tire kickers. Here's one reason why, I'm selling a computer on CL's - a nice one and not too expensive. Got a response from an individual and I asked him if he would like to see it. His response - I'd love too, but I don't drive!!!! Can't make this stuff up......
Don't misunderstand me, I know you weren't going to have the repairs done. I just wanted you to get a real sense of what it would cost to be done so you could price your rig appropriately. That's all. Further, the thing about Craigslist is that guys who are willing to purchase a good deal fixer use it - like me!
I've sold literally a few hundred items on Craigslist between downsizing to move back east and since my time back in NJ. I've got 11 items up right now! I stick to MY ground rules in every sale so that I do avoid as many tire kickers as I can, but absolutely, they happen along with the scam artists that are defeated easily enough by my #1 ground rule - cash and carry - even the $15K for my old truck last year and I tested every bill of it with marker!
Nonetheless, if your position is to really just make it gone, it should fly away quickly for $7K! Just make sure to structure the ad you place so that they understand there's no major mechanical issues causing the low price but instead it's priced to move and make room! Good luck with it and happy camping!!!
Thanks - Nothing ventured nothing gained. We'll be putting it up for sale in the spring. I figure the cost to repair will be in the order of $3K. So, putting a price tag of $10500 allows for movement on the buyers side. I've got this season and part of next to sell it. Since we retire next August and the new coach will be ordered April - May 2016. Then when all is said and done.......Where on the road fulltiming!!
