The relay is to control the added heavy loads installed by coach manufactuers. They do not feel that the wiring from chassis manuafctuers will support the additional amperage.
The relay feeds a separate fuse panel. On this fuse panel are items like fog lights, radio, power windows power mirrors, mirror heaters.
This is common practice in electrical systems not just RVs.
