PW excel 2004 interior question

I just bought a 2004 PW with the white interior that has not stood up well. Has anyone refinished them. Can they be stripped and stained or must I paint them to look better. Only thing I don't like about it. Especially with the dark fabric.
Thanks
  • My 2005 Excel has the stain grade cabinetry in most areas except for the bathroom which is white. Last year I removed the drawers and door and spray painted them with a Krylon some sort of white and I think the results were very good to a point where one had to look really hard that to see that it was not the same color as the rest of the cabinet. Try it you'll like it!
  • I'd guess the white interior is "paint grade" just as a finished wood would be "stain-grade".
( like the interior doors in your house- some things are manufactured with the intention of hiding "sins" under paint)

the original owner saved a few bucks on the finish by choosing lees expensive cabinetry.

    so I'd suggest you paint.

  • I had a 2004 PW Excel with white interior. Luckily mine was in good shape and only had to be wiped down occasionally.

I don't know if premium grade wood is used for the white painted interiors of PW's. That would make all the difference to me as to whether to re-paint or strip and stain. Crappy wood would make for a crappy finish, imo.

I'm not sure the effort and time it would take to strip all the white wood surfaces would be worth it to me, not to mention the messiness of the job: strip, sand, stain, varnish, etc.

I'd probably just repaint. Then again, I'm partial to very light finishes in my RVs because it makes them seem more expansive and less dungeon / cave-like. My newer PW's interior has a very light wood interior. I'm pleased with it.

    Good luck whatever you decide.
