Question About Plumbing Vents

Went up to check things on the roof, and found that two of the plumbing vents were disintegrating. My question is about the number of vents up there. There are three that are pretty close together: two that have the bases touching and the third about 1 foot away. What are the three vents for?

I looked at the Cyclone Sewer Plumbing Vent for a replacement but I have no idea which one is the vent for the black tank. Is there any way to know what each one is used for?

  • Thanks for the link to the video, Paul. That was very helpful!

I called Newmar and the third vent is for the washing machine.
  • Maybe one of the two that are right next to each other was a mistake that they capped?

    I have four...

Assuming you have only ONE gray and ONE black.

The one in the center of the roof is for a Satellite TV Dome or roof mounted dish, It has wires under it, not plumbing.
  • I just went through this on our 5th Wheel. We had a very small hail storm the roof sewer vents took a hit. We have 5 roof vents but on inspection, only 3 were actual tank vents, the other two were just covering holes in the roof. I think when they build these things they pre-drill the holes for various floor models. So on the two blanks, I got two 2" pvc plugs and capped them off. I then replace all 5 of the roof vents so it looked like it came from the factory.

In replacing, the best tool I found to remove the old dicor was an old flat blade screw driver with a dull end. I tried a plastic 2" and a 2" metal putty knife but they were taking too much dicor at a time. The screw driver worked just right but you must take it easy.

When replacing the old roof vents, I used butyl (sp?) tape on the bottom of the roof vents and then screwed them to the roof, you need #6 one inch screws, six per vent. After screwing them down, use dicor self leveling caulk. This works on all roof types.

Here is a link to this job, they used dicor under the roof vent but my old ones had butyl tape so that is what I used. Sewer vent replacement

The replacement vent I used were these: Sewer roof vent Good service company and fast shipping.

    Hope this helps.

If you have any further questions, let me know.

    Paul...
  • No, it has 1 black and 1 gray. It has a washer/dryer. I am just not sure what all those vents are for.

Could your Newmar have a black holding tank and two grey tanks?
  • Go up on roof down close to vents, have DW flush, should be easy to tell. :) Movie RV just came to mind. Be careful up there.
