Questions on Installing new front sway bar

I received my Hellwig front sway bar and will be installing it later today on my 2007 Tioga on the E450 chassis. I do not expect much difficulty doing the install. My question is after the install do I have to have an alignment done? I wouldnt think so as the swaybar is not directly connected to any steering components but I just wanted to verify. Also, my steering wheel is offset to the right. How do I recenter it? Is it like on other cars where you rotate the knuckle on the drag link? When I look under my MH I see two knuckles and Im not sure which one, if either, I should be rotating??????

The trick would be to adjust both ends in an opposite direction to:
    1. Center the steering wheel, and
    2. Not change the existing TOE.

Unless you want the DIY challenge let the pros do this for you.

NO alignment required. I don't have all the model year changes committed to memory, but my recall is you have the last year Ford poked the ends of the front swaybar into bushings in the swing axles. If so, that's how ours was. Take the four bracket bolts out and the OEM bar will drop. At that point it can be simply pulled forward out of the axle bushings. BUT... depending on how you got under there (jacked/blocked or not), you may have to lift, lower, or turn the steering wheel to get the OEM bar past the steering linkage.
You re-use the OEM bolts in the center brackets of the Hellwig bar. You can use a bracket and one bolt, even a ziptie, to hold the new bar in place while you get the new bracket over the bushing and the bolts in. Just remember the spacer plates that came with the Hellwig.
Don't tighten the bar to the frame before you have the bar centered to your satisfaction. You may see a need to adjust as you put the end link brackets on, and line up the end link bolts.
NO alignment required after Sway Bars, Track Bar, Shocks. If you change Ride Height (Frame Angle) with Springs or Air Bags then alignment is desirable. If you change Front Suspension parts (Ball Joints, Axle Bushings) or Steering Parts (Various Tie Rods and Links) then you've disturbed Alignment and it should be done. If you do an alignment, get Adjustable Balljoint Bushings so you can increase Caster to the high end of the range.
  • Correct-- no need for an alignment just because a sway bar is installed. They have no affect on alignment.

When I have any vehicle aligned I mention it if steering wheel is turned. They correct it.
