Raising The RV

Need to raise the RV up in the back. I didn't have long enough boards to drive up on so I used the jacks to raise it up and put boards under the wheels. Do you see a problem with this set up?
Thanks for all comments!

  • Well, in the "Now I've seen it all" department, at one of the stops over last winter, I watched a recent park arrival lift his class A completely off the ground - all 4 corners - and then try to figure out how to detach the toad. Just luck that he didn't bend the jacks.

I had the front wheels off at Rend Lake COE at a very unlevel site, but used the chocks and boards to even things out. I only have a single jack in the front so the bus would have been rocking side to side without them.

  • Chalk block one of the front wheels, front and rear and put the RV transmission in Park mode. You want to do this so the RV does not move when the rear wheels are off the ground. I've done this before with success, but it still makes me nervous with the back wheels off the ground.
  • As long as you have wide enough boards under the tires and the jacks are retracted so that all the weight is supported by the tires then you should be just as safe as you would be if the coach was on the ground. If it's more than 1 board I would screw the boards together as well so there is no possibility that they slide or shift.
  • X3 on blocking the front wheels. Also emergency brake would be a good idea.
  • Emergency and parking brakes are on the drive line instead of the axles. Avoid raisin rear wheels off the ground if possible, as you will have no brakes to hold it in place. If rear wheels are on blocks, should be OK, but chock from tires to be safe.

Probably not going to hurt anything, even though you lose your park brake, when raising it.
I'd be sure to block the front wheels before beginning and wouldn't want it to attempt rolling. Also not to be putting any forward strain on the front jacks, while doing so.
  • I would chock the front wheels just to be safe.
