Also the good thing about an air driven brake system is the lack of air means no brakes on the toad at all. With a mechanical system, rust, kink, a frayed wire or sticky wire means brakes may engage.
Not saying a mechanical system is bad, just that a brake buddy is a 1-2 minute job and really can not be screwed up unless maybe you're drunk. Even then I can not see how the brakes would be engaged, maybe something might get scratched from the "foot" extending though.
