Rear AC - BAD vibration-Solved

Went camping last week for a week or so. The rear roof ac was vibrating the entire coach pretty bad. I thought great, another thing to fix, get fixed or replace over the winter.

Got home and googled possible causes. I took the cover off and checked the fan for any excessive play, comparing it to the front ac. Seemed normal. Stuck my hand behind the fan blades to check for mud wasp nest(s), nothing.

I took off the top of where the coil sits and felt around to the hub where the blades come together and Eureka! Big mud wasp nest. Removed it and unit runs smooth again.

Just wanted to leave this here should anyone need a search in the future.

1: Insect nests are #1 cause of this
    2: Fan failure is #2

3: NEVER EVER mess with it while it's running.. LOOK but do not touch.
  • Hope you wore gloves. Nothing gets ones attention faster than grabbing a full wasps nest with a bare hand....Dennis
  • Ha. I had a vibration also. Ever so slight but still a vibration. I took the cover off and noticed the fan and motor shaft was vibrating. I reached in to see if I could hold the motor stable and BAM! I got my knuckle in the fan and took off the top of my knuckle and 2 blades off the fan. Ordered a new fan and installed it. Now everything is quiet and steady and the knuckle is healing just fine.
