My rear-view cam is great, but I use it for backing almost exclusively. You may need to add some stick-on 'fisheye' mirrors if the OEM ones leave you with blind spots to the sides. I leave backup camera on during the day to monitor my bikes on the receiver bike rack, but the camera is not meant to be a replacement for a rear view mirror. No mirror is needed with proper side mirrors. Camera is for backing into campsites.
BTW--it is NOT illegal to have a monitor on while driving as long as it is being used as a driving aid (i.e. backup camera). It may be too bright at night and therefore distracting--mine is, so I just turn it off at night and only use it for backing up.
