Rebuilding a power steering pump

Hello. I am new to this site in sending a post. I have been reading your surefire a while and have learned Alton. I have a 1996 Monaco Dynasty and need to find a shop that has experience with rebuilding this pump. Can anyone out there assist?

  • Say, ricelake, a power steering pump is bound to have a generic replacement.

I really don't think you have to rebuild your old one. Just take it around to different shops and truck parts stores and show it to them. Ask for something that has the right flow specs. Moding the brackets and stuff is trivial for a backyard mechanic.

I would start with truck parts stores. If they come up empty, ask them where they would get a steering pump rebuilt.
  • Thank you for all your suggestions. A new pump is not feasible because the company who bought and then sold the company again do not make the pump any more and that is why I am looking for a company who have experience rebuilding a 1996 Monaco Dynasty which is being earmarked as a vintage next year. (Just hate when companies tell me that my coach is really old and should be put out into RV heaven)
  • Get the name off your HYDRAULIC PUMP. Contact the manufacturer and get their recommendation for a shop in your area. Compare with price of replacement.

If more than just leaking seals, rebuilding may not be economically reasonable.
  • Those days I would never take anything for granted.
Small repair shops vanish from the neighborhood and pet hotels are moving into the building. That happen in my county.
Lot of brands don't allow PS rebuilds anymore, so I would check around how much factory rebuild is, what will make swapping much easier as well.
  • I think any hydraulic shop would be able to rebuild it. Don't know that for sure, but something to look into.
