refer

Have a 1993 coachmen chev.30 with a dometic refer. Freezer can get down to +10 but bottom struggles to get down to +40, even after 3 days. Thought I read on hear about putting a refer fan in there. think it would help?
  • Thanks guys. plan on taking it apart this morn. Hope its not difficult. Noticed there was a piece of waffled cardboard up in there at back of refer. Is it supposed to be there?
  • Before I gave up on it, I would take that flu apart and look for obstruction. In over twenty years, lots of things could have nested in there or soot could be evident. I would clean it up real good in the heat stack, check the flame carefully, and turn it on gas and leave it on at max setting for a week and see what happens. Make sure the coach is level when you do this.

It may be just a gone frig, but I would sure try running it a long time and then running several cycles of off and on for two or three days after fully cleaning and inspecting before I gave up on it.

I had one years ago that was like what you described. It was my first RV, a C, and I didn't know come here from sic 'em. A local rv dealer took it completely out, inverted it and two guys shook the heck out of it in the upside down position. They called it "burping the reefer". It worked perfectly for all three years we had it. Apparently, the gas had settled someway. All I know is it seemed to fix it.
  • Have only owned for a few months. Previous owners said the seldom used it. Has only 70,000mi on it. Right now trying out propane side of it. The flame size is not much but a friend told me they aren't. What little I have used it was on electic. It has been on propane now for 6 hrs and freezer is down to +10 and refer is at +65. It looks clean from what I can tell.
  • Recirculating fan wouldn't hurt.........

    BUT

When was the last time you cleaned the flue, burner, burner stack, backside of fridge etc?
And that 20 year old fridge may have blockage problems depending on how many times it has been operated while not level......off level damage is accumulative.
