Refrigerator life dry

Hey all-

We have a 2005 Holiday Rambler Ambassador 40' DP. It has four house batteries and a Norcold 1200 refrigerator. We'd like to take a 10 day trip and leave the coach in storage with the refrigerator on, running on propane. I know it also requires DC as well, but I'm not sure how much. Assuming the batteries are in decent shape and we put the fridge on a medium-cold setting, how long do you think the fridge will run?

thanks-

dave

I'm still trying to figure out the subject line.

    Dry camping maybe?
  • The one time we tried this, the TT we had at the time was parked in a grass field. When we returned there had been several days of rain and the tongue jack on blocks had sunk almost 2 feet into the soft ground. The TT was out of level and the refrig stop being cold all food spoiled....bad smell.

Moral of the story...you never know what might happen.

Four house batteries is not enough information. 4 Six volt GC-2, 12 volt, what size, (I mean 4 8D's would last no question 4 Group 24's wont' make it).

With just the fridge.. 10 days with most common battery sizes is iffy. Very Iffy.. I do not think it will make it based on personal experience.
  • That's a good question. Lots of variables to consider. Do a trial test if possible and monitor battery voltage daily to see how long until unsafe voltage drop. I personally would not consider it while running on gas ten days unattended.
