Register RV in another state

I am wondering about registering the RV in another state where it is less expensive.
I heard you can register in Texas, Fla., Montana for example. Can someone give any input on doing this?

  • According to your location, you already live in one of the 3 most RV friendly States in the country. Full timers flock to Florida, Texas, and S.D. for domicile. Assuming the sales tax on a MOHO in Tally was .075% as opposed to .035% in S.D., the savings probably wouldn't cover the gas to get out there. I believe there's a one time impact fee for "new residents" bringing in their vehicles. Annual tag renewal is a non factor between the two. No issues with annual inspections. My guess is that setting up a Montana LLC would cost more. But, I could be wrong. It's been awhile since looking at domicile.
  • You either have to have residence in the State or set up a LLC or other business that ownes your RV. You will need to seek legal advice to get a definate answer. You can get a lot of good advice on this site but you will also get a lot of opinions.
If you are going forward with it you will need to see what the bank thinks if you owe money and your insurance. They might consider your RV a commercial vehicle if it is owned by a LLC.
I never went that far when I looked into it. I didn't find where I would be saving any real dollars in the end.
