Removing Old 3M Film From Coach

The coach we're looking at has old 3M plastic film that has discolored and cracked. I looked closely at it and its not going to peel off in one piece. Is there an easy way to remove the film?

Does not sound like you have mold under it and mine looks much the same. It still keeps the rock chips down so every time I read what a hard job it is to remove... Mine looks better. Zylene will gut the glue.
  • Those weren't the answer I was looking for! LOL. I see an opportunity for a new product to remove this stuff. The film on the coach I am looking at is crazed and I don't think there is a piece larger than 1 square inch.
  • Ran into a fellow in a rv park removing that 3M film. He said about 2-3 days and no paint damage, but was charging $1,000 for his work. He was doing the slow heat/pull lift and used a chemical to remove the glue. I was sure it was worth every penny as I saw his fingers looking like red sticks. Had to hurt like crazy but the job looked fantastic when he was done. He didn't put anything back down on the newly clean surface so I suppose the owner of the rig was going to do something, or nothing?
  • Sucky job. As mentioned a hand held travel steamer, get some plastic razor blades/scrapers from a window tint shop or buy online.

Try to get a corner started and slowly lift at an angle. I could get a six inch hunk off at a time.

The glue can be removed with Goof off, Naptha, and 3M makes a cleaner sold at paint stores.

    Good luck with it........Ol'Ben
  • lOOK on 3m products, they have several items for this. Look at the decal wheel for one.
