We have rented in the past from Enterprise, they delivered right to our site. But nowadays we tow the Grand Cherokee 4 down. Much cheaper than renting...
Enterprise on the weekend is $9.95 per day, weekdays around $25 in most locations.
That is quite a few rentals before you have spent what a toad and tow setup will cost.
Never had any issues renting cars, not towing....one less thing for me to do while the DW watches!
We NEVER had that experience or those prices and I've rented from just about all the major companies. If you are off the beaten path and not in a big city, car rentals can be iffy. Just our experience.

From the Enterprise site:
Weekend Special View Terms and Conditions
Enjoy weekend rates starting from $9.99 per day when you rent from Friday through Monday at participating neighborhood locations. Special rate includes 100 miles per day.
With the largest fleet in North America and a great selection of vehicles, Enterprise has it all. And, we’re always nearby at more than 6,500 locations. We'll Pick You Up®.
Or
No, exit promotion and book at everyday low rates.
I was $.04 off ---sorry about that MM
Everyday rates will naturally be based upon supply and demand from all companies, so I should not have opined about a daily rate. Just try to rent a car in Vegas when a few big conventions are in town!
In Riverside, CA, (arriving by train), there was no one to pick us up from Enterprise, they were short handed that day. The words written look and sound good.
If you are only going to large cities with a large rental inventory, your statements might work.
Now, I'm not dogging rentals, doesn't matter to me if the OP rents, walks, rides a bicycle or hitchhikes, reality is was I wanted to share with our car rental experience.
Safe travels,
MM.
On edit: I should say that I have had many successful rentals when I would fly into airports to get a rental car. My above problems were just while traveling in a rented RV and trying to get a rental car.
