Replace 2 stage propane regulator with

So I have an external tank hooked up to the existing extend a stay on my 1988 Super Chief RV. Thanks for the advice on that everyone.

I'm realizing that having two tanks would make life much easier, as I've already run one nearly dry and would hate to run out in the middle of the night. 20lbs isn't much when it's below freezing.

Can I safely install one of these? I'd disconnect the current regulator and put this on one, as I can't refill the on board tank and it's currently empty. I can reconnect it once the RV is road capable again.

It looks like it will provide the amount of flow needed, but I'd like to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Thanks!

X2 you can check to see if they have them online (it will stay in stock if at your local store).
  • they sell them but not in stock and can't get them until Jan. I wouldn't mind a bigger one than 40 but not sure I could transport a bigger one in a car, or drag it up a hill in a snowstorm.

  • Thanks. Yes, I was hoping to pick up some 30 or 40 lb tanks but haven't found anywhere that has them in stock.

I have local sources to refill them but nobody seems to sell them. May just have to order them and deal with using a smaller tank until they get here.
  • Yes, you can bypass the ASME tank and ASME 2 stage regulator and install that dual tank Changeover/regulator. I assume you are going to use 2- 20 lb tanks. If so, get either 30 or 40 lb tanks instead. Of course ONLY 20 lb tanks can be exchanged at retailers that offer Tank exchanges. 20 lb tanks have a little less than 5 gallons of LP. 30 lb and about 7 gallons and 40 lb have about 9 gallons. The LP regulators have a total of 210,000 BTU of flow. WAY more than enough for all the LP appliances running in your RV. Doug
