replace ice maker valve

Hi there Everyone, I have a Norcold refridgerator with an ice maker. The control valve is sticking open at times and the ice trays are over flowing and then freezing up and making a mess. I've found a replacement norcold valve that looks exactly the same, but costs $65.00. My question is, can I change it out for a different valve and change the plumbing? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might pursue for a replacement that others have found works?

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks! - Eric -

  • Remove the water valve and go to any local Appliance repair supply company(Appliance Parts Depot is a national supply chain with local stores). They have multiple Water solenoids and you just match yours up. They usually cost less than $20 for your model. Doug
  • Is this the valve?

If not have you a part number
  • The odds are your Water Solenoid is NOT the fault. The Water solenoid is powered by the RPM of the motor of the Icemaker. When the motor is rusted/corroded and failing, it slows down and leaves the Water valve open longer than it needs to be and then too much water flows into the mold. Please repost if your replacement does NOT fix your problem. Doug
  • I would look through these valves and find one that matches. Norcold doesn't make the solenoids. Look closely on your valve for make and model if you don't see one.

  • if it is 110v which I suspect then just go to lowes/homedepot and find one that matches your lines or online. Mine was a push on and a screw on. Been working fine.

I don't see any at Lowes or Homedepot now.

Buds' is right if not local or Amazon
