Has anyone replaced their over the cab bed with storage cabinets? Are there any places that you can buy cabinets that are prefabbed for this application? My wife and I travel alone and do not use the over the cab bed. We would like to have cabinets similar to what you see in b-class units. I am curious to know if anyone here has tackled this. We have a 2012 Freedom Elite 28z.

My thoughts would be you can probably find what you need at LOWES. They sell alot of pre-made cabinet shells. I'm sure some changes will be in store to make them fit...This was what I was planning for all my radio units to fit if we got one of those units. Then route remote control heads-speakers-support units to an operating position around the kitchen table...There is only two of us so no way would the over-the-cab area be used for a bunk bed. Was also thinking a better approach for the HDTV setup in that area would consume up some of that area as well...I wouldn't hesitate at all modding that area for your special needs. Special areas seem to be a premium as it is.Your model over-the-cab area sure has alot of overhang however after looking at some photos. Alot of room past the two side widows for just standard depth cabinets... Would hate to cover up the side windows.There are a few views on GOOGLE SEARCH showing some cabinet mods to this area.Definitely will be an interesting project whatever you come up with...Roy ken

My wife wants to use the space for storage also. She is just going to get some plastic totes to use, though. Won't look as nice as cabinets, but will still leave the space usable for the grandkids when they go camping with us.

Does Thor offer it as an option? If so, you might consider just going up to their factory repair shop in Indiana and getting it done. They'd probably be done in an hour. :)

We use the cab over for storage also. It doubles or inside storage space. We found that several large plastic storage bins with tops that latch work better for us than cabinets or shelves. We don't put really heavy items up there but the bins work well as they can be organized. We have them for extra clothes and coats, boots, and rain gear, kitchen supplies, hiking gear, dry food, etc.The nice part about bins is you can easily pull them down to get at things and slide them right back up in place when you are done. We have a short curtain that pulls across so we don't see them and a lip keeps them from sliding out on their own.The cab over can still be used as a bed if we want by putting the cushions back in for a trip.

Here is what we did to convert the front overhead to a bulk cargo area. There used to be a folding mattress up there that we removed. The net keeps stuff from coming down while driving. There is no reason that a fabric barrier couldn't be used instead of the net if you don't like the look of stuff up there.The nice thing is we can convert back to a sleeping area if need be.
