Replacing Slideout Awning Matieral: Success!

DW and I replaced the awning material on the bedroom slideout yesterday. It was a job I wasn't looking forward to doing, but it was a breeze! I looked at a few videos on the website where I purchased the awning material from. :)

So, now we replace the material in the living room slideout todaY.

  • This forum has been invaluable to me also. DW and I replaced both slide out awnings on our rig last summer, this summer is the main awning. It does take two people (probably 3 for the big awning). Lots of knowledge and expertise here for the taking. Haven't been to the RV shop since we bought the rig, thanks to folks on this site.
  • Did my slide covers several yrs ago. Took off the originals and had a local canvas tent maker duplicate them and then reinstalled. Need 2 people to do the job.
  • We've fixed our toilet, water heater, and refrigerator thanks to all the helpful advice from fellow RVers and instructions on "you tube". You don't always have to be a master mechanic to repair some things, just put out a little effort and save yourself lots of money! Good job on fixing your slide out toppers!
  • DW and I did the large slide out awning today. It was a bit more involved than the smaller one. After we took off the old fabric, we took the awning roller off and sucked in the slideout. Then we slid in the new stuff, let it hang from the roof
while we slid on the roller onto the fabric while it was hanging down. Reinstalled the roller, aligned per instructions and that was it. I really would like to get the other two replaced(over the entry door and the main awning.) also, before we leave for Upper Michigan the end of April.
  • Thanks for the "Link". We need to replace the large slide awning. Phoned around locally and was hit with astronomical figures. Have all ready taken the awning roller assembly off-now just getting the correctly sized material. Thanks, Lars
  • I need to replace my large awning fabric. It seems more cumbersome than window or slide out awnings. Probably need to recruit someone other than the wife to help, although I know she will be pleased to supervise whatever might happen.
  • Glad to hear it!
I think we'll be doing the same in a couple of years.
  • Thanks for the info. Yes, I have helped do that once and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. :)
