Residential Refrigerator Installation

I have a 2002 Allegro Bus and will remove my Norcold Gas/Elec unit out and replace it with this Samsung 18 cu ft house refrigerator. All measurements are OK except for the height but not a problem because I have a small cabinet under the old fridge that will accomdate the height from 63" to 70". My Norcold quit cooling and I was starting to smell amonia so I bit the bullet.
My question (I am having a RV specialist install)is there anything that I am not aware of before the work begins which will be next week maybe?

Thanks for your help and really appreciate this forum which has not only help in knowledge but hundreds of dollars savings.!!!

  • I have an interest the home refer as well. My question is how do you get the unit in the coach? As I look my 07 Hr ambassador even with doors off I can't see other than through the windsheild a way to get the unit in.
    Thoughts?
  • I have been researching fridges as our Norcold just went out. We fully intended to get a residential anyway. As I know for a fact from personal experience that Frigidaire won't honor the warranty if installed in an RV, I thought I'd check with Samsung just to see what they say. I also wanted to check with them on the MSW vs PSW. Well, as typical of anything nowadays, I got 2 completely different responses from Samsung. My first response from them said that no, ALL of their fridges won't work well on MSW, and no, they will not honor the warranty if installed in an RV. I then got model specific with them - the model DANO lists above - as I knew the RF197 had been discontinued, and that response from a different person, I'm sure, was that it draws 1600 amps each time it starts up, so if your MSW supplies that, that yes, it will work, and they will honor the warranty.

I believe the model above is smaller - around 18 cf, but DANO got a good price. DANO, I'd like to know where you found it, please.
  • Yes I do have the New Fridge on hand and agree the RF197 was discontinued. The New Fridge #RF18HFENBBC which I purchased online for I think a very good price of $1,169.00, free shipping and took about 2 weeks to come in. I ordered the black color but they do have it in white and stainless.

Thanks again for your input as I am still waiting to install!
  • figure out how to hold the doors closed. I use a velcro strap
  • The only issue I had after the Samsung install was figuring out how long to put the ice cream in the microwave to get it soft enough to serve.....:W.....Dennis
  • If you can find an SS RF197.....I would buy all I could and sell them for a profit! ;)
  • It's a pretty simple switch over. I've done two. Any company who has done them before should be able to make quick work of the exchange. I hope you have the new refer in hand, as Samsung has discontinued the RF197.
