In my 2007 Discovery we decided we would replace the Norcold 4000 series with a 18 CF Samsung. It is now in and it took less than 2 hours to obtain the desired temp. When running it pulls 16 amps of 12v power off the inverter. Hopefully my 4 Golf cart batteries will do the job as we don't boondock that often. I lucked out for power as when I removed the Norcold there were 2 110V outlets. With my multi-meter I discovered one of them was already wired to my inverter. By the way I installed a 2812 Magnum pure sine inverter. Anyone who has more questions about the installation feel free to ask.

While the draw will be high for awhile while it first cools down things will greatly improve once it's cold. It won't draw that much continuously but only as needed once it is fully cooled down. I have an older larger fridge and it draws 3 A/C amps (30 DC via inverter) so it sounds like yours is much more efficient and you should do just fine with occasional dry camping. The generator could use a couple of hours exercise every now and then anyway!

If I'm reading your post correctly, your fridge uses 16 amps @ 12 volts = 192 watts. That's a very efficient refrigerator. (325 watts is normal for a Dometic 2652 in 120V mode) It would be interesting to know that given a specific ambient temperature, how long your batteries last from a full charge until the battery voltage drops too low to power the inverter while generating sufficient voltage to run the fridge.(read into the above question) Without a charging source, eventually your battery voltage will drop, as the state of charge decreases, to a point where something will shut off. It would be wise to know, in advance, what shuts off first and when.Chum lee

One of his so called ""coaches"" is a beater mini classC Toyota with a mini bar fridge and hardly a so called residential fridge
Regarding LPG fridge I have owned (3) 1200/10 series fridges over the last 11 years and had zero problems and all worked well
I recently(this summer) went to a 18Cft Frigidaire SS just for the extra size and being frost free in the freezer because we don't boondock and live in it 5 months at the same spot otherwise I would have never changed

I am sure I am stating the obvious and others are just having fun with the topic but I believe he "has" owned 3 RV's with residential fridges. Assuming that's correct, I'm with him. I will never own an RV with an RV fridge again.

If you have a dedicated inverter I am sure you won't need more than a 1000 watt, in fact a 500 watt should do. You will have to do some calculating on the battery requirements.
