The norcolds are sort of sealed but the several I have seen were pretty minimal at best(sloppy) and one could easly loose AC or heat and have bugs come and go. I sealed my upper vent to keep dust and dirt out but my lower vent comes with built in mini grills in the air vent slots so no bugs would get in there and it allows cool air to be drawn in by the compressor cooling fan so I say leave the lower vent to do just that vent especially in hot weather
Good luck when your water line to the ice maker freezes. My Samsung RF18 uses inside air for thermal transfer. Leaving the vent open to freezing weather is a quick way to find yourself pulling the fridge because of a broken water line.
Many have learned the hard way.
