I like ur choice of words here.....LOL.
If u are going to replace that with plywood, there is an adhesive that will bond just about anything to anything, and cure very quickly. It isn't cheap, but it works great. It's used in the auto body repair field. They do have some available with longer cure times if u need it.

I have used this in a number of different places and will use some on my rebuild as well.
