Restringing day night shade..help

Ok, finished restringing the day/night shades. It wasn't to bad a job. Took 4 of the 5 strings in the kit from Camping World. Found one plastic piece that was out of place and allowed the string to rub against the metal. That is probably why the string broke. Otherwise it was pretty easy. Made a threading tool from a small piece of wire and the treading part was pretty quick and easy. The hard part was getting all the sections back together and remounting the shade to the valance and the valance to the wall.

Thanks to all for their advice and help. Now I am ready if any other shades break.

Ok, back from our trip. Removed the daynight shades....couldn't find the screw on the ends so I just removed the valance. 6 easy to access screws and then I could get to the two end screws on the shade. Think I will mount the blind to the valance then mount the valance when I am done.

Purchased a restring kit from Camping World. Has enough string to do 5 small blinds and the instructions included are pretty good. I watched RVWithTito's video on restringing and that helped clarify some steps in the process. Always nice to see how its done before you start ;-).

Will let you know how it goes when I am done. This may take a few days with other projects in process.

F1bNorm..what kind of string? 70 lb braided fishing line was suggested. Don't know if there is any better string or what type would be best. 100' of string would likely be cheaper than a kit.

I would look for a string that is close in diameter, weave and color.

I've done it several times. I've posted instructions, video and materials on my website. The first time can be time consuming but it gets easier each time.

F1bNorm..what kind of string? 70 lb braided fishing line was suggested. Don't know if there is any better string or what type would be best. 100' of string would likely be cheaper than a kit.

I would rather have a 100' roll of string than the kit. The kit has enough string to do just two shades and you shouldn't need the other bits (springs and bushings). Make sure you leave the strings long until the shade is remounted and adjusted.

I didn't need to remove the valence box, just the two phillips screws that go through the top part of the blind up into the valence.

A trip to the hardware store is next so we can get an extension for the screw driver to reach the screws up under the top part of the valance. Our MH is an Aspect 26a and the blind is the big one over the dinette....looks like the same one you had to restring F1BNorm.

Will look for local source for a restring kit. Should we just carry a spare kit?

F1b Norm....how did you get the top part of the valance removed to access the top of the shade? Sounds like we have the same motorhome (model) but yours may be longer.

Taking this a step at a time. Step 1... have to get the darn thing removed from the window :-).

I only removed the side valances. The shade is attached to the upper valance with #2 Phillips sheet metal screws (two) and if I remember correctly, a center spring clip. The screws were hidden in the folds of the shade. I used a flashlight, a small hand mirror and a portable drill/driver with a 6" extended screw driver bit.

Rotate (either way) the top rail out of the clip.

The biggest problem is not knowing how the shade is attached. Hopefully this will help. BTW ours is a Aspect 23D. The shades are the length of the dinette.
