My thought is that the thread was closed simply because the question was answered. Overwhelmingly the answer was no. Keeping a thread like that open is like beating a dead horse. There's just no point after a while.
On the other hand, when moderators close a thread, as a courtesy to the OP and folks following the discussion, they should put in the reason so we all know what's up. Some do this, most don't.
