Ride Height Adjust

Just finished a 900 mile run from Central Illinois to Thurmont MD and wanted to relate experiences with breakdowns. Two of us traveling with 40 and 43' DP's. Second day traveling in Ohio I noticed vibration in my coach in Columbus OH. Pulled off and notice that back of coach was way high. Looked under and saw BOTTOM bracket of ride height adjust broke off. Spartan chassis. Long story short, called portable welding service and great service from Ironman Mobile Welding (will give them shout out). Back on road 3 hrs.

Next day coming into W. Virginia, companion traveler noticed vibration in his coach. Looked at back of his and rear was down dragging. When we looked under the coach his TOP connection had broke off. Since this had happened before he had a spare one made back then. Stopped at fuel station, ran into local guy, who called mobile mechanic, who came out and put part on. (no charge so give shout out to West Virginia hospitality).

Primary reasons for writing this are that we came across 70 in Indiana and the road was terrible. Big pot holes along interstate and not much road repair going on. Will definitely not go back this way. What are the odds that two ride adjusters break on same trip.
Second reason is to give Ironman Welding kudus and if anyone needs welding around Columbus OH use them. I know this is long post but you need to navigate I-70 in Indiana very carefully.

  • I recently (2 weeks ago) traveled through Indiana and Illinois. Those roads are terrible. My RV didn't suffer any damage, but a utility trailer traveling in our caravan suffered some damage from bouncing through the ruts and pot holes.
