Roadtrek running too warm?

Hi all—just finished driving our ‘97 Roadtrek with the 318ci engine from PA to FL. Engine temp usually runs about 195-198 degrees as measured by a Scanguage. As we traveled south and the weather got warmer so did the engine it seems. As we drove down through Florida where the temps were in the high 80’s to 90’s, the engine temp seemed to go up to 200-204 degrees and held steady there during the six hour drive. It would climb as we pushed it to 65mph and back down as we slowed down. Before I take it to a mechanic and just start throwing parts at it, does this running temperature seem normal or should I be concerned. This thing is our baby and I would like to prevent any future problems and I feel that running at a cooler temperature would help to that end. What say you?
  • High normal but it would not hurt to give the radiator a good cleaning.

I saw 209 when running the air conditioner 7 days ago.
  • X2 on radiator issue. 20 year old radiators are tired. My advice is replacement, cleaning one that old is a recipe for leaks.
  • Your temps are totaly normal, and are no concern. Your radiator is performing as it should. I would not waste the money on having it checked out or "repaired", as there would be no change in performance.
  • One way to know if your getting too warm is if the radiator fan engages. Years ago I was going up hill in my 318 Dodge and the needle was going up. The fan kicked in and what a roar it made. The temp started going down right away.
So if the fan didn't kick in your most likely ok.
