Roof Coating Streaks

The deal on the previous RV we looked at fell through. But we have found a very, very nice 34 foot Bounder. One issue I have is that the roof coating is chalking pretty bad and there are streaks running down the sides and front of the coach from the roof. What will be required to correct this? Is it something I can do myself or will it need to go in for service? No indications of leaks though. Chuck

  • I had one MH with an aluminum roof and got black streaks down the side. The next was a Pace Arrow with the rubber roof. There I got white streaks. The Brite-Tek n the Newmar left very few streaks. Choose your color of choice.
  • I would say that it is a rubber roof. If the deals goes well, i think a good cleaning will help determine if more is needed. Thanks. Chuck
  • I assume it's a rubber roof, in which case wax isn't a good idea. They make cleaners and protectants designed for rubber roofs.
  • Depending on how bad the chalking is will determine on the condition of the roof. Usually a good scrubbing with a quality cleaner will get rid of the chalking. Follow that up with a couple good coats of wax and you'll get years of service out of it without the streaks. Use caution, of course if you're on the roof. The roofs on most rigs are neglected because no one want to get up there and clean/polish them. They just need some TLC....Dennis
