Roof seam repair
The seam where the roof meets the rain gutter on our Winnebago Sightseer has started to separate. I plan to repair it with a good quality silicone window/door caulking. Is that OK, or do I need to use some other type of caulk?

bumpy- My Rv is older, a 89 Southwind, it has had several trouble spots in it's life, right side at the front cap roof corner and the left rear at the rear cap roof seam. I tried everything, dicor self leveling, Snow cool roof coating, Silicone, Nothing seemed to work to stop the seep. I broke down and used the clear Flexseal spray, it stopped all the leaks.
- I had trouble in the same spot last year with my Winnebago. Mine did not separate and I used Dicor self leveling caulk.
- I would put the sealant recommended by the manufacturer and then put Eternabond tape on top once it dries.

If the sealant is starting to go bad you have to "dig out" the old sealant and re-apply.
I have read that some people after having the roof re-sealed put eternabond on top for extra measure. - The roof is held on with sealant..???? Winnebago,.....tell me it's not so.
IMO it it's a fiberglass roof and there's a seam line that has started to open, the only sealant I would use is 3M 4200, or if you want it to be permanent, use the 3M 5200. Both are NON-SILICON.

yes, follow the winnebago recommended sealants.

Winnebago roof seam sealant - Hi,
I buy some rubber roof sealant at CampingWorld.com and keep one calk tube in my RV at all times. That way if I am out camping, and find a leak, I have something to complete the repairs. Once a year or so, I will inspect the roof, and use the older product up, replace it with a new tube.

Fred. - Don't use silicone.
Use Eternabond or Dicor Caulk.
If you use silicone, it's difficult to remove and nothing will stick to it.
