Route Guidance - Longview Texas to Michigan

Will be picking up a new to us coach in Longview Texas hopefully the end of next week (7/19 or 20). Plan to drive back via

30 to Litlle Rock
40 to Memphis
then 55 to 57
pick up 70 to 69 in Indiana
69 home to Mi

Any reason not to go that way?
I have never been south of St Louis in that direction so looking for your input

Thanks
  • That's the shortest and pretty much 'blah' scenery but for 43 additional miles you could also take 40 to Nashville then 65 north to Louisville to Indianapolis then 69 to Michigan - a little more pleasant scenery.

  • 70 between St. Louis and 57 is really rough in spots and construction/repaving is being done, don't know what it's like east of Effingham, but suspect it's the same. 57 between I24 and Effingham was reasonable in most areas back in April, don't know about the southern part of 57 from Cairo.

65 has been mostly repaved/rebuilt between Nashville and Indy and is a pretty scenic drive through TN and KY. The rebuilt road and bridge in Louisville make the trip up 65 a little more pleasant.
  • We don't care for IH40 between Little Rock and Memphis. We enjoy driving on highways 167/67 and then 62 to Poplar Bluff and then east on 60 to Sikeston.

We have traveled from Texas to Western Michigan many, many times in the past 38 years. Now that we are retired we can travel the back roads and take our time.

Two years ago we traveled through Tennessee and Kentucky on our way to Ohio and New Hudson, Michigan to visit with family.
  • FYI is you're a car nut the National Hot Rod Assoc annual meet is in Louisville 8/1-. Thousands of beautiful cars and vendors and huge indoor arena.
