rpm cable assemby broken

Ok, whilst driving home from campground, I heard and felt the rpm cable break, as the rpm gauge went to 0. What is the best way to fix this problem? I am pretty handy so if its something I can physically reach, I will give it my best.
  • Tomorrow I plan on using a better light and inspect a little more thoroughly, I did notice one of the brake fluid sensors has snapped loose.
  • Ok, I looked and looked, didn't see anything busted. Turned my machine on to diagnose an engine light trouble and the tachometer was working, Not sure what is happening?????? The cam shaft sensor kicked the engine light on, then it proceeded to explain I needed an emissions test, this baffles me.
  • Try looking around in the wheel well for a broken or unplugged wire. Maybe even up under the dash on the firewall near where the wheel well is. Like garyemunson said, there hasn't been a cable driven tach made for at least 50 years in the automotive market. Most GM products the tach signal comes from the ECU. I don't think it has a separate fuse, but you might want to check for that as well.
  • Something went thump under the wheel well, and rpm gauge went to 0. I stand corrected it is my tachometer and it went to 0, shortly after the thumb in the wheel well
  • I really think that my 04 Pace arrow is a "bastur*" machine. It seems to have so many different components from various automakers on and in it.

  • I haven't seen a cable driven tach in 50 years! Post pix when you fix it!
  • That sounds like your tachometer perhaps. I've never known one to be cable driven. It should be electronically operated by the ignition system, ie: a wire from distributor if you have one. Otherwise a signal from the ECM.

You can buy a repair kit that you cut to length and add one end to the cable.
