Well I just drove from LA to northern Alberta on one (200 gallon) tank. That cost me almost $1000. If I were to do a round trip, I could do the trip down on veggie oil for "free" and only pay for diesel on the way home, saving me $1000 and half the cost of the trip.
Plus I could convert one of my storage bays to hold another 100 gallons easily so I'd only have to buy 100 gallons of the 'inexpensive' dirty diesel in the US :)
Northern Alberta to LA and back on $400 instead of $2000? I'd say it's worth the time and hassle. But then again, I like tinkering with this stuff.
Besides I get to smirk every time I pass a Shell station :)
