Running the AC from the Onan

Hey guys I’m looking at a 96 Bounder with 11k and I noticed when he started up the generator and then the AC the AC would turn on but it would keep clicking like it was going on and off and the light on the panel said SERP which would flash. After a few minutes it stopped and would run fine then the compressor would kick in and it would get cold.. the deal is both ACs did this when turned on One at a time. I thought maybe it was because the generator was cold but after running it a while and turning it off and the generator off and then doing it again 5 minutes later it did the same thing. Is this a safety on the generator that it needs to run for 5 minutes before it gets full power? Thanks guys!

  • i think you will find the bounder has a climate control and load shedding for the a/c

things will go on/off until it has stabilzed

check the bedroom for the a/c controls/thermostats
turn both to off or set to low fan

    start generator
    wait 5 minutes
turn on 'only ONE' a/c, wait 10 minutes
    turn on second a/c
  • I just know this about my system. Once you turn the generator on, you have to wait a short while for the generator to fully power up. I have a power management system, so I wait until I have all green lights on the power panel before I turn the A/C on. I have never tried turning it on before I have an indication of full power, but I suspect that I would get a similar result to the one you have described.
