Bucky welcome to the land of HOAs and old retired people with enough money to pretty much do what they want....I am older than most on here but some just won't admit that these motor vehicle laws are flawed in many ways. If you followed every single law and regulation concerning your motor home you would be camping in your driveway----wait, the HOA won't allow it in your driveway!!!!! Some people need to just get a life........flame on folks, I got to roll my over weight, overlength, wrong drivers license mess out of here to enjoy my weekend with a bunch of likewise folks......
Pretty much nails it. In addition, there may be some political holier than thou attitude mixed in as well.
The ONLY reason I mentioned anything about sportsman racers is because it was brought up like a rub your nose in it deal. Get this: A state targets certain motorists who are bringing a great deal of revenue into the state. And they nail them for anything including inches over the stated law. Let's use 65' for example, as it can be related to 65 mph easily. Who gets a ticket for less than one mph over the speed limit? How about 5 mph? Even that is pretty rare. Yet they ticket for ANYTHING over the allowed overall length. Sure that makes sense. It did NOTHING to make the roads safer and its only intention was a money grab. It hurt specific businesses as well. If that isn't profiling, I don't know what is.
Is 80' well over the law? Of course. And there is a chance he will get a ticket or worse IF he gets pulled over. If we really want to make the roads safer, maybe we should pull EVERY exemption that motorhomes get. Now 70 year old retirees can have fun with a CDL test as well as physicals and the expense that comes with all of it. I'd say THAT would make a bigger impact on road safety than busting overlength vehicles.
