RV Cabover Rebuild - 1983 Jamboree

I have posted in many other threads about a 1983, 26 ft. Jamboree that our family purchased, which turned out to need a whole lot more work than I expected. What started out as basics like oil change and getting the rig smogged in California avalanched into a carb. rebuild, exhaust gasket replacement, roof top A/C repair, generator repair and rebuilding the old and rusted out electrics in the engine bay. Little did I know that actually was just be the tip of the iceberg.

The biggest challenge (and greatest need) the old rig had in store was her cabover. It was completely rotted out on the passenger side. Inspecting the water damage and tearing into it became a crash course in RV ownership and repair. I am not 100% finished with my rebuild, but the project has lost some steam now that it's all water tight and usable.

This forum and its members have helped me a great deal, offering great advice and encouragement during the adventure, so I would like to contribute back to the forum from the things I learned along the way. Several folks have asked if I was documenting my work and I have indeed been writing up a document that details my travails and triumphs. Since it might take a bit to get the interior completely done, I thought it could be useful to somebody if I posted a link to the incomplete write up for now. So here is the link and I hope someone will find it useful.

RV Cabover Rebuild

Once I get the interior completely finished and dressed, I will update this thread with a link to the complete document.

  • Good lord what a mess you found....and what a great job with the rebuild. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
  • I really enjoyed reading about your efforts. You are a very skilled craftsman, and you should be very proud of what you've done to keep this rig out of the junk yard.
  • Wow!

DaHOSE, you are special. Thanks for taking the time to document effort.

By special I mean you have a "Can Do" attitude that I never had....
I will be subscribing (follow) to this post.
What ever you decide to do with this "RIG" I hope you get the satisfaction and pleasure one can get from projects like this (i'm told) ha ha.
    Good luck!
  • Thanks for the great write-up. I hope I never have to do this, but if I do, your efforts will be a big help. Thanks.
  • Thank you so much for taking the time to document and share this.
Although I personally don't need or plan to do this, I appreciate the effort it must have taken to document and write up this project in addition to performing it.
