RV cover, the good, bad and ugly of using one.

I have been fortunate to have always had available inside storage but I have always wondered about covers like are being discussed on this thread.

My question: once you put the cover on (assuming for the winter season) do you just not exercise the generator all winter? Do you not fire up the vehicle engine during that period? Just curious.
