In my case, it's not difficult to uncover the engine compartment and use the hood to hold back the cover. After carefully making sure the exhaust pipe is clear, I can run the engine. Same with the generator. I use the hatch cover to hold back the cover and then I exercise the generator. Very simple.
I never run the fridge and you need to be very, very careful if you want to run the furnace. I have rarely done either. My coach is always plugged to shore and I use an electric heater to keep the inside above freezing, never the furnace.
