Lot of good advice from trop-a-cal. On the interstate (few exits) I like to cruise in the right lane. In congested areas, the lane to the left of the right most lane. Driving through Chicago, absolute left lane with my foot on the floor as far as she goes! (ok, little humor there)
Pay close attention to the overhang mentioned above (like pulling away from gas pumps). You won't be thinking of that. Test it in a parking lot first so you know what we mean. When you turn the front end one way, your tail moves a whole bunch the other way!
Some people have a hard time knowing where the right edge of their vehicle is. When in the parking lot, pull up on a parking line with your right front wheel about 6"-12" away from the line. Then, from your normal driving position, see where the parking line intersects your dashboard. Put some kind of mark there. For me, I have a two-part windshield. The center pole intersects the middle of the dashboard and that is the precise spot where the parking line is when I'm 10" from the line. Knowing that is very handy when driving in tight spaces.
