RV Garage Design Help

We are planning to build an RV garage in the near future and need advice on sizing it. We have a Tiffin Allegro RED 36QSA that is 37' long.

I know I need to make it longer than my current rig for possible longer rigs in the future, but we are unlikely every to buy anything over 40'. How much longer than the longest rig should it be?

I am planning to make it wide enough to extend the slides and open the basement doors without hitting the walls. How much extra room do I need?

The Allegro is 12'-10" tall and 79" wide when all buttoned up. So I am thinking that a 14'x12' door will suffice.

Are there any other considerations or suggestions on sizing or designing the garage?

  • I would consider if there could ever be anything going on in there for the rig besides simple dry storage:
    *power supply
    *water/sewer connections
    *man door
    *windows
    *heat?
    *living quarters
  • Mr. Lee,

Everything will depend on your budget and space available. If it were me, I would not go less that 50 ft. in length and 14-16 ft. wide. If you are a tinkerer, you might want a pit to examine the under carriage.

I would also want water and sewer connections along with a 50 amp outlet.

If you ever sell your home, a motorhome garage might be a good selling point for some. The length I suggested would accommodate the largest rig.

Do it right the first time.

    MM.

So your class A RV is only 6'7" wide, I have never seen one like that.
  • Ours is 32' x 48' with (2) 12W x 14H overhead doors. For the MH it's fine, but with my garage projects I'd still like it to be bigger. :B
  • Go on line and look at other peoples MOHO garages for Ideas, do you have other things you want to put in garage as well.
  • You may want to consider building it high enough so you, or someone, can get on the roof of the motorhome to do any maintenance or inspections.
  • With solid walls, I'd make it at least 15' longer than the longest rig you might buy and give yourself a full 10' on either side of the rig so you can open the slides and walk around comfortably.

We have a 40' motor home and are building a 16' wide 45' long carport for it. Since it's open on the ends and sides I'm not worried about room on the sides as long as the slide won't hit the carport supports.
