RV GPS
Hello everyone: We are considering buying an RV GPS. Would love to hear comments on what and what not to buy and if you think they are worthwhile compared to our regular GPS.
Thanks, Vikki
Thanks, Vikki

Where would you find a 10'6" overpass? I've never seen one on a road or highway. Do those things exist back east?
Never get off the Freeway? They exist all over the place. Even in Calif
One of the best documented "low passes"

We use the Microsoft Streets and Trips software with the Microsoft GPS. We put the notebook computer on the dash and run the Silverleaf VMSpc vehicle monitor on half the screen and GPS driven Streets and Trips map on the other half. When we have passengers we connect the video output to the overhead TV for their watching pleasure.

For that tout Microsoft Streets & Trips (since I've never used it). Will it warn you about low over-head passages (ie overpasses/underpasses)? Will it warn you about roads unsuitable for the length or weight of your rig (ie weight restrictions on bridges)?
All of the RV/Trucker GPS's will do that.
I got curious and went to the MS Q&A about S&T and their answer is no. It doesn't not support height or weight restrictions on roads. So it will gleefully take you down a road with a 10'6" overpass, when you are 11' tall....

I used to be a Garmin person, but switched to Magellan just because it was easier to use and much easier to enter addresses into quickly. I have never found any short comings with the Magellan maps. Especially not leaving off a town. I just recently bought the new Magellan Smart GPS and so far I really like it. It works in conjunction with your smart phone or iPad. You can pick your routes or destinations on your smartphone and send it via Bluetooth to the GPS.
Is that an RV (or Trucker) GPS, can it be programed for vehicle height? Length? Weight? (overpasses, curves, bridges)
