RV Parking at Devils Tower

Was there a couple summers ago. Drove my truck and TT up top past the visitor center, looped through the parking lot, and parked at the exit from the parking lot along the road side, along with several others where there was plenty of room. If a tour bus will fit an rv will fit.

When I was there in July, the Ranger at the pay booth told us to park in the RV / Trailer parking, unhitch and drive the toad up. He did not make it sound like it was optional.

The RV / Trailer lot was pretty full. Ironically, there would have been room up at the top, had I tried driving the RV up.

Google Earth does show it well. The RV parking in the outbound lane (parallel parking) up at the Visitors center looks pretty good as long as the place isn't swamped.

I was surprised on Google Earth I didn't see any RV's except for one small air stream in the overflow unpaved parking. Seems like that might be a good location for larger RV's with Toads if they had it laid out that way.

I've emailed them for a response on using the overflow unpaved area. (no phone answered) Will let you know what they say.

I was just looking at the street view on Google Earth. Sign says "RV Parking Only", in the picture, you can see 3 RV's and 3 autos parked there.............I guess the auto's didn't see the sign. I've never been there, but just looking at the street view, the over flow parking area, just before the loop off to the side, with one way entry and exit, looks very tight for an RV.

I have been looking at Google earth and do see an expanded lane near the entry booth.

As I zoom in on Google Maps near the visitor's center up near the top, I notice an area slightly off to the north-west and down hill a bit from the visitors center in the trees that appears like it may be a larger parking area. I wonder if thats what NPS is referring to for buses etc when they are full. I'll give them a call today and see if they can clarify.

I also see the area down by the Prairie Dog city as you enter tea campground but I'd like to park comfortably near the visitors center up the hill if I can.Maybe I'll luck out and the parallel parking might be available and not crowded.

Just checked Google Earth for the area, looks like the RV parking is adjacent to the outbound lane from the park.

X2. Personally, I'd leave the MH at the lot and drive the toad up. Sometimes the parking area at the top can be congested, especially when you get people parking where they shouldn't at the top. It can make getting a longer vehicle through the turnaround loop difficult.

The last time I was there I drove past the visitor center and continued on the loop. At the far end of the loop, there was plenty of room for me to pull to the side and park. It was a short walk back to the center and the tower trails. We usually travel during the Winter months and this was in late October so there were not a lot of people there at that time. Might be different finding parking during months that draw a lot of visitors.

Looks like we'll blow through there in early September
