If your son could do that he is either Super boy, or you have an issu. Sounds like this is a non moving RV. If that is the case I would put a permanent jack under that rear passenger bumper and lift it up till the door closes.
When you have time and money go explore the real reason it is not closing. My bet is you're not going to like what you find. There has to be a sag somewhere, might have been that way since new, or rust got to it like the old GMC's of the 70's. They had a center door that would sag to frame flex.
BTW, I had a neighbor with that same model. It always looked like the overhang was way too much to me. He use to travel with it, but ended up buying a lot and leaving it on it.
