- jsmartExplorerWe learned tons about where to sit and where to ride when we started using our MH. I'm constantly making my kids and grandkids buckle up when their riding with us in our car. The MH seating arrangement makes it difficult to enforce safety rules. I feel confident in my driving abilities, it's the other folks that worry me.
- Executive45Explorer IIII was PASSED by a guy from Alberta, Canada pulling a fiver this morning. I was going about 75 mph!! I was in the car of course, not the coach. His rig looked too heavy for his truck too. Made a nice "V"...can't fix stupid and can't help stupid people....Dennis
- Dale_TravelingExplorer IIAnyone know where I can get a big roll of industrial strength bobble wrap? I wore out my pants.
- mowermechExplorerI refuse to get all upset about it.
I like my Class A. I think I'll keep it.
In my younger days, I rode small and medium sized motorcycles. None of them had seat belts. Now, I ride 750CC street-legal ATVs, They don't have seat belts, either!
I refuse to play the "WHAT IF..." game also. Carried to its logical conclusion, one would never do anything. If fact, one would never get out of bed!
But then, the death rate for staying in bed is not so great, either! A LOT of people die in bed! - PogoilExplorerDrive Safe my friends!
A M.H. going 70 scares me when I see them pass me.
Pogoil. - kalynzooExplorerSupports my posts throughout the years. With no testing on seatbelts in an RV it seems foolish to extrapolate data from a car to a motorhome. Is a child or an adult safer or at greater risk with a lap belt sitting sideways? People seem to "make themselves crazy" securing their children when they may be compounding a problem. Restraint is probably good, but think about the physics of motion. As for the horrible scary pictures...how about traveling at a reasonable speed. Maintaining the tires. There will always be accidents, plane crashes, tornados, falling trees, drunk drivers, whatever. Just be careful out there, and Happy Trails. JMHO
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIThere are basically several types of crashes.
Car/Motor home.. On my coach most cars are lower than my feet, all lower than my seat.. Odds are if I'm hit by a car it's going to go under me and with an 5 or 10 to one weight ratio... There won't be much work for the seat belt to do.. Just the Fire Department with the Jaws of Life extracting the idiot who hit me.
Page 2: "Are not required to meet safety standards" does not mean they do not. Only that they are not required to.. Yes, I know but sometimes a company is really concerned over the safety of their customers.
Best advice. Drive with open eyes and a clear mind.. Do not do 90 mph in a 45 zone, Careful on turns.. Remember you are driving a house, not a Lamborghini. - Curious. Jet Airplanes (commercial) have to meet stringent standards. If you are belted in a plane and it hits a mountain or other obstacle, what do you think will happen to you???? I guess it is better to DRIVE your safe Automobile to that destination:B There are risks to EVERYTHING we do in life. If you think motorized RV'ing is not worth that risk, then either do not travel in an RV or do not pursue the lifestyle. NOBODY CAN MAKE EVERYTHING IN LIFE PERFECTLY SAFE. Doug
